Nike Reuse-A-Shoe Program
Nike began their shoe recycling and reuse program in 1990 and have collected far more than 25 million athletic pairs since. It really is easy and convenient, just drop off any brand of athletic shoes at among the following places:
Drop Off Places:
Converse Outlet Store
Nike Factory Store
100 Citadel Dr., Commerce
You are able to recycle up to 10 pairs of athletic shoes of any brand. They do not accept:
shoes with metal.
cleats or dress shoes.
wet or damp shoes.
sandals or flip flops.
What happens to all these shoes?
They're ground up, sorted, and processed into three varieties of raw material:
rubber from the outsole,
foam from the midsole, and
fabric fibers from the upper portion in the shoe.
This "Nike Grind" becomes portion of athletic courts, tracks, fields, playgrounds, carpet underlay material, and new shoes and apparel.
